I have few queries on the Microsoft Dynamics AX Versions and Service Support for same:
1. Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 is latest independent AX version?

2. Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 has only on-premise support and exposes on SOAP Web Services. Please confirm.
3. Dynamics AX and CRM has been merged and rebranded as "Dynamics 365"(en.wikipedia.org/.../Dynamics_365). Please confirm.
4. Are the Web Services for CRM and AX merged Under "Dynamics 365"?

Refer to the sites about support lifecycle:

    mbs.microsoft.com/.../lifecycle

    support.microsoft.com/.../search

    1) What do you mean by independent? None of them are independent, they are all proprietary of Microsoft. However, there are add-on solutions from independent software vendors (ISV for short) to cover certain functionality and business verticals.

    2) It is up to you on where do you want to deploy AX 2012 R3, since it is supported in hardware virtualization solutions

    3) It has not been merged, they are standalone products, however they are offered in a package with certain plans

    4) No, see point 3. Standalone products with their own interfaces. They will have a middle-ground in the form of Common Data Model / Common Data Service. https://www.ebecs.com/blog/introduction-to-common-data-model

    1. The latest version of Dynamics AX is Dynamics 365 for Operations. I have no idea what you mean by "independent AX version".

    2. Hosting AX 2012 R3 in Azure is supported. Yes, AX 2012 exposes SOAP web services.

    3. Not merged. Rebranded.

    4. Not at all. CRM and AX are still separate products, they just share a part of their name, some licensing options etc.

Thank you Vilmos and Martin for your reply.

    1. By independent, I meant before rebranding, was Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 latest version?

    4. After rebranding, AX supports REST or SOAP? More details or links on this lines will be helpful.

    1. No, the version after AX 2012 R3, developed under code names Rainier and AX 7, was called Dynamics AX (without any version number), before rebranding to Dynamics 365 for Operations.

    4. It has nothing to do with rebranding. But yes, AX 7 supports several different kind of services, including some SOAP and RESTful.. You can find answers to such questions in documentation (Service endpoints).
