Active Dates on Account Structures

We are attempting to revamp our account structures to take effect at the beginning of the year.  The old structures will need to be available until April for potential entries for 2019, thus the new rules will need to peacefully coexist for part of 2020.  We have expired the old structures and advanced rules as of 12/31/2019 and set the new rules to take effect starting 1/1/2020.  When we attempt to add the new structure to the ledger of the legal entity, we get errors that the main accounts overlap with the old structures.  If we attempt to do this within an account structure as shown below, we get a similar overlap error.

I note that on the configure account structures page on doc.microsoft.com, there is no mention of the Active dates.  Can anyone confirm whether the date functionality is supposed to work?

    Hi DarshanShah,

Right, Try to explain your customers/colleagues again that they had the wrong impression about this feature and that it works differently.

Please don't try to adjust even if your customer asks for it because this account structure /findim stuff is complex and can cause a lot of headache if things get modified.

    All the best,

    Ludwig

Understanding issue Darshan. All you need to do is to explain the functionality again to the business users

ok, but now since my client has seen this field they are into impression that it should ideally work as per their expectation.

    Hi Darshan,

Ludwig is correct. There is a validation that the main accounts may not overlap. This is ignoring active dates on the segments to prevent having issues if there will be a change in dates.

    Hi DarshanShah,

What you try doing is not going to work.

You can use those validity dates within a single account structure.

There is thus no need to create a new one; simply specify in the 'old' lines a value in the valid to field and create new ones with a value in the valid from field.

    That should work without problem.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
