Cannot create new workflow and edit old workflow

Dear All,

Could someone help me with how to fix the issue below?

I set up AX 2012 R3 CU12 on my virtual machine (VM), had restored the database and application database of my company into that.

- I can start service AOS

- I can start SSRS report service and running all report on this VM

However, I cannot create a new workflow and also edit the old workflow from the database restored. the system always shows the message: "An unexpected error has occurred while opening the workflow. See the event log on the AOS and contact your system administrator to resolve the issue." although i set up system service account.

I also tried somehow to fix this issue as

* stop service

* remove AUC file

* Deactive/active AIF service, ax client, sysworkflow...

* Compile Application

* Compile CIL Net framework

* Remove XppIL forlder

But the issue still could not be fixed.

Could you please help to review and guide me how to fix it?

Hi Luis,

Can you tell on what machines you tried the client? Is it on a desktop computer/laptop or on the server? I have seen this before and can be related to 32bit or 64bit machines. But can't remember the full details. At least, the workflow editing should work with a client directly on the server.

Are you trying to open the workflow from server's client or your client machine?

I have also faced same in my client machine. But it is working fine on server's client.

Please check the same for your case.

Hi Jay,

I'm using a client machine. That means I created a virtual machine and set up DC on that VM.

I guess the problem from licensing of WS which I used to run OS for VM but I'm not sure.

Hi Andre,

I had set up virtual machine Hyper-V and running in WS 2016 datacenter. I already set up SQL , AOS on that system and restore Database, app into that. I can work more functions, report and debug on that machine well, but i cannot edit, create new workflow. The system always show error as i mentioned above.

More, i got the issue from here from source code.

Look likes my workflowconfiguration has problem but I cannot find how to solve this problem

Run a WCF refresh may solve your issue, please try this solutions:

- AIF | Inbound ports | Activate sysworkflow services
- AIF | Inbound ports | Deactivate AXClient service & AIF service | then Reactivate them again
- Refresh WCF configuration (from AX Client) | then export it into xpo file

Hello Luis,

I would test the blog post suggested by Will and if you still face the same error - please open a service request to Microsoft Support.

Hi Will,

I tried to do with the solution as you suggested. I got the issue when I compile(F7)

"Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c' or one of its dependencies The system cannot find the file specified"

And the error "CIL generation: Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection." when I generate full CIL.

Could you please have a look and advise

Hi Luis,

Please try to add missing assemblies, it seems that you have to install a full version of SharePoint(Foundation).

After that you could try to use the AXBuild.exe command to compile.

Hi Luis,

Please follow the steps suggested by Will WU. And still if you unable to open the workflow editor from your client, please follow below steps:

1) Please check your default configuration

2) If it's not the same configuration, in which you are trying to open workflow editor, please change the configuration.

3) After changing the configuration, Click on refresh configuration, Click Apply and then OK.

4) Open the client again and try to open the workflow editor.

If it's the same configuration, then directly apply step 3 & 4. It's worked for me. Anytime you are not able to open workflow editor from client follow the above steps.
