Dynamics GP 2010

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi guys,

I've download Dynamics GP 2010 from MSDN subscription download page.

When download it said No key required, but after install said will work only 90 days.

How I can make it work more than 90 days? There is now key available on MSDN.

Thanks.

    I am not sure what you had stepped in but GP has never required a domain. My guess is someone installed SQL with only windows authentication. GP 2010 is now unsupported so hopefully they will upgrade soon. There is a GP installation guide that will help. You will find it in your GP documentation folder.

    Maybe was the SQL version required for the latest GP (I've tried many versions of SQL and GP), but I know for sure was asking for a domain name and I couldn't go to the next step. For what I need right now, GP 2010 with SQL 2008 it's fine for me.

    The other important reason (forgot to mention), at work I'm using GP 2010, so for testing/learning the best version is the same with what I use at work all day. When they will update my work version, I'll update my personal version.

    I have never seen a GP installation asked for a domain name. It asks you for your SQL instance name and a valid SQL username and password. Please remember that SQL must be installed with mixed mode authentication. It will not work with Windows authentication.

    Richard,

    I'm new with Dynamics GP, but when I've tried to install the latest version I couldn't go to the next step until put the domain name. Since I don't have that, I've tried the older version. Plus, since is testing / learning I've installed all the features, maybe that's the problem. I should go with basic features, but want to learn about the software and all of the features. Thanks for the info.

    Plus I believe if you only load the lesson company(TWO) registration keys are not required.

    GP does not require a domain unless you are trying to use the web client. You can use SQL Express and install it standalone on a laptop.

    @Ahmed

    I've tried with a virtual machine, but it's a laptop and slow. I'll try with my desktop, but even that one is old and slow. Thanks for suggestions.

    i think its better to create a virtual machine and create a domain for it and then you can make all your development and testing on it.

    Thanks Ahmed, I'll try that. It's a custom key from MSDN subscription, but I didn't know that I can use it for 2010

    @Richard

    One of the reason, I can install it on a stand alone PC. For 2016 or 2018 version you need to be on a domain and not all the time I can have my PC join a domain.

    It's only for testing / learning purposes. It's not used for managing a company.
