Missing FormXML when exporting Solution

(0) ShareShare

After Installing UR13 I cannot export the complete Entity Definition anymore. The <FormXml> part is missing completely. I have an application that exports an Entity as unmanaged, then adds new Controls to the <FormXml> and then reimports the entity to CRM. Now all of that is not working because the Form Definition will not be exported at all. This happens for both Managed and Unmanaged Solutions.

Does anyone knows if this is a bug and if there is any way to solve it?

    Hi Frenkie,

    Thanks for your question.  My name is Josh Wells and I am a Support Engineer on the Microsoft Dynamics CRM support team.  I am not aware of any bugs around exporting entities not including the FormXML.  I have a few questions for you to help understand the issue.

    1. Are you seeing this on all entities or specific ones?

    2. Do you see the same issue when you export a solution directly from CRM?

    3. Are there any managed solutions within this deployment?

    4. Does the issue reproduce on a new org?

    Also, can you post a code snippet of how you are adding the component to the solution?

    We are going to be limited on how far we can go within the forms on this.  If you feel that this is truly a bug, my suggestion would be to create a case with our support team and we can investigate it further.

    Hi Josh, thanks a lot for your reply.

    I have this problem only with Managed Entities (Since UR13).

    This is how the Account Entity is being exported:

      <Entity>

         <Name LocalizedName="Account" OriginalName="Account">Account</Name>

         <ObjectTypeCode>1</ObjectTypeCode>

         <RibbonDiffXml>

           <CustomActions />

           <Templates>

             <RibbonTemplates Id="Mscrm.Templates"></RibbonTemplates>

           </Templates>

           <CommandDefinitions />

           <RuleDefinitions>

             <TabDisplayRules />

             <DisplayRules />

             <EnableRules />

           </RuleDefinitions>

           <LocLabels />

         </RibbonDiffXml>

       </Entity>

    This are the issues (On All Org's with UR13)

    1. Attributes are missing (Only on System Entities)

    2. FormXml missing on both System and Custom Entities (Custom Entities are also Managed).

    I have created an application that exports an Entity and makes modifications to the FormXml. I'm doing it programatically using the Schema Files that are in the SDK. And it worked great untill now. Now after installing the UR13, the FormlXml is missing and when I Deserialize the Customizations.xml file I get only "null" objects.

    Just for Info, we have'nt installed UR12 at all, we moved from UR11 to UR13, could that be the Problem?

    Is there a workaround to this Situation, or anything I can do so that the Account or any other Entity can be exported with the FormXml?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Frenkie,

    Thanks for the follow up.  I don't believe the issue is skipping URs.  URs, for the most part, are cumulative so you can go from UR11 and then UR13 while getting all of the fixes that were in UR12.  I think the problem is around the fact that the entities and customizations have been modified by an installed managed solution.  Do you see the same behavior with the OOB solution export within the web client?  The reason I ask this is to understand if we have to troubleshoot a custom solution or if it is something I can look into on my end without involving custom code.

    Hi Josh

    Yes the same thing  happens when I create a new unmanaged Solution (manually on the WebClient) and Export it. All the Managed Entities and also System Entities are exported like the account I showed before. Maybe there is some issue with the Publisher?

    Hi Frenkie,

    Thanks for the additional information.  Can you provide some understanding of how the solutions are layered?  For instance, do you have multiple managed solutions that are "installed" for the Account entity?  If so, how does each solution modify the Account entity?

    As an example, there are 4 managed solutions all installed for the Account entity.  In solution 1, it has modified the form, added fields/relationships, and updated labels.  Solution 2 updates the form based on solution 1. Solution 3 makes a different set of changes to the form not depended on solution 2.  Solution 4 adds fields and attaches web resources to OnChange and OnLoad events.

    I think the issue is around the layering of managed solutions that is causing the issue.

    Hi Josh, thanks for the quick answer.

    Well the Situation is pretty much as you describe it. There are many Managed Solutions that make changes to the Account Form, few Optionsets/Fields are being added from 2 Different Solutions, another Solution adds also Controls with OnChange Events, and also an Onload Event for the Form.

    But this did not happen anytime before, it is strange that is happening after and only on those Orgs with UR13 installed.

    What are the Options/possible Workarounds for me in this Situation?

    Thanks and BR

    Frenkie

    Hey Frenkie,

    I believe that this is going to take quite a bit of time to dig into.  If the issue only happens after UR13 I think it should be investigated further for a possible bug.  Could you create a case with our CRM Support team and provide a link to this post for the engineer to get caught up to speed?
