Resource/Time Sheet not posting to general ledger

Hello,

We use resource and timesheet to manage project (job) based costing. Job No. and Job Task No. are required on each time sheet line. Approved time sheets get pulled into Job Journal and posted.

When looking into related transactions of posted time sheet, we found it only gets posted to Job Ledger Entries and Resource Ledger Entries. There are no general ledger impacts.

We have gen. prod. posting group set up, and each resource no. has gen. prod. posting group selected. It is the same setup we use on /Item/.  When an /item/ gets posted on job journal, it affects general ledger, meaning the posting group works. However, when we post /Resource/ from timesheets on job journal, it does not affect general ledger.

Is this by design or we missed other setup?
I have the same question (0)

    Hi Gerardo,

Thanks for introducing the Job G/L Journal.

However, it does not solve the issue as Job G/L Journal does not have an option to post Resource. It has Employee but not Resource.

Timesheets can be pulled into Job Journal but not Job G/L Journal.

Hi, this is a bit strange. I briefly tested it and it seems that I haven't encountered this problem. The following details are posted from the Job Journal.
    Resource Card:

Hope this can give you some hints.
    Thanks.

Hi Zhu, your post is very helpful!

The only possible missing driver, by comparing your resource card setup to ours, is the VAT Prod. Posting Group. It is not set up at all in our system so we leave it blank on Resource Card.

We are in the United States and VAT tax does not apply here. In that case, do we need it set up for resource to post to General Ledger?

Our Gen. Prod. Posting Group is not perfectly set up, there're some inventory/cost accounts being the same. But I don't think that's preventing GL posting, the result would be a wash instead of no GL entries.

I tested setting up VAT Prod. Posting Group and VAT Bus. Posting Group, adding the VAT Prod. Posting Group on the resource card, and post approved time sheet to job from job journal. Still not posting to G/L.

Give it a second try with Location Code filled on the job journal. Again not posting to G/L.

In both cases above, related entries show Job Ledger Entries and Resource Ledger Entries only.

    Hi ZHU,

I think the GL Entries posting below circled in red are related to the Item usage not resource usage. Both have the same Document No. JJ1234 and I wasn't able to see the unit cost but there're only 2 # of entries not more, telling me it possibly is related to the ITEM only.

I think this is by design that when user posted approved time sheets, the costs will be posted into WIP accounts. Those WIP accounts means costs are accumulated there until a job is marked as finished. This works similar to production module in BC, user needs to change the status of a production order to finished to empty the wip accounts, so the costs will be posted to gl for finished products.
Try to test by following the below

Thanks appliwin123, we use the job wip function, it does capture the labor up to date and post the amount into wip account, however, when the job completes and when WIP is re-run and all costs to be taken out of WIP and be recognized, the labor costs (via approved time sheet postings) are not recognized into GL COGS accounts.
