lol... Pooja you made my day.

i can write a Book about the things you need to 'keep in mind' before implementing AX..

AX is an ERP system.. there are sooo many things u need to keep in mind when implementing an ERP.

i am sorry i am not really answering your question.. simply because it could take me a few months to give you a proper answer (and it still might be incomplete)..

if you want to find the things you need to keep in mind before Installing AX.. then we can give you some bullet point..

but implementing ax is a different ball game..

To start of with .. make sure you map all processes on to ax..

I.e. there should not be a single business process that isnt mapped (or the users arnt trained) on AX

also think of Exceptions... what if scenarios.. things like what if we pick an order and the customer calls to cancel.. or calls to change address... or ...

    Well thanks :-)

but (to be more precise) ya i was reading this implementation guide (installation and configuration is also part of that) wherein

    a)  'create database' steps, there was setup for SQL server and Oracle database. So we have to choose one.. but then in 'system requirements' section when we have to set up OLAP server, there is one line mentioned that 'if the primary database in our AX system is oracle database server', a SQL server database must also be installed to support OLAP'...so I want to clarify what if our primary server is SQL??

    b) Also, the installation order is very important.

    c) I want to know more about this 'customer site' funda??  Are they the users external to domain which comes under Enterprise Portal concept??

     Regards

    Pooja

    Hey Pooja,

that's much better....you question is a lot clearer now.

ok... from the AX installation guides perspective.. it only designed to show you how to install ax.....unfortunately it assumes that you already have (or know how to) install the supporting components.. windows, sql, iis, wss, etc

    a) if you plan to use olap, then you need to have sql server analysis services installed... there also is a bit if setup you need to complete in ax.

    http://dynamic-ax.co.uk/articles.aspx

click on the above link for steps to setup olap and then ssrs .

    b) well yes...

    c) customer site could mean different things is difference scenarios....

customer site.. can be the end client site (i.e. the customers office :) )

customer site can also be (as you said)  the customers EP web site....

you can also mail me on mrasheed@dynamic-ax.co.uk if you have any more questions.

    regards,

    Dear Friends,

I have never implemented any ERP Solution earlier, however I am now the business project manager (who understands the business processes that need to be mapped) and will work alongwith an IT project manager and Microsoft consultants.

Can somone guide me what all should I take care, or any book that I can read that can provide me information on

    a) How to map all the business processes

    b) How to understand the implementation stages of an ERP solution

    c) Specifically understand the implementation stages for ERP Solution

I have read a lot about ERP systems but now need kind of business process mapping guide and then IT implementation guide so that I am educated in the complete process.

Many thanks and look forward to your advise.

    regards
