Same main Account

Hi All ,

In AX , we have the subledger and main ledger .

Same main account can be attached to multiple subledgers , but system never throws any error.

when it comes Bank subleder , system would throw the error when try to attach the same main account to another bank account .

It will throw error , but still we can attach the same main account to multiple bank accounts.

What would be your experience when it comes Bank module , do i need to maintain the different main accounts for each bank or single account is enough.

Please share the pros and cons regarding the one main account to multiple bank accounts.

Thanks in advance.

    RE: Same main Account

    Hi Lally,

It is possible to have one main account, but in our country we always create a main account per bank account. This because we are used to it and checking/validating the balance is easier.

So it will depend on the customers need. If you ask the accountant he/she will probably have this same answer.

    RE: Same main Account

It is possible, and sometimes preferred to use the same ledger account for multiple bank accounts.

An obvious example - if there are many bank accounts, you would not want to clutter your chart of account. In one previous project we had 10 bank accounts in one company, and over 150 bank accounts in total.

Hence, we created one ledger account per CURRENCY, and linked all bank accounts managed in that currency to that same bank account.

The reason for grouping by currency is that it made it easier to revalue these accounts for foreign currency exchange rates.

    RE: Same main Account

    Hi ZVIKA ,

    Thank you for the reply.

I have been working on the AX 2012 and need to implement AX for 4 companies in the shared COA.

Companies are located in India , Singapore , UAE and Australia. As you know that all company currencies are different .

We created one bank account and for all the banks in the all companies linked with the same account .

    Is it correct ?

    Or

Do i need to maintain the company wise Bank main account ( because currencies are different for all companies )

How to revalue the bank accounts for the foreign currency exchange rates ( AX does not have the bank exchange rate batch job for banks )

    Thanks in advance.

    RE: Same main Account

    Hi Lally,

If each company has one bank account, for sure it is no problem to use the same main account as these are separated per legal entity. If each company has more with different rates, I like the answer of Zvika to have at least the main account per currency.

Make sure that it is possible to create audit reports to have reconciliation between sub ledger (bank) and the general ledger.

Can you create a new thread for the bank exchange rate job question?
