Unknown dictionary error

Posted on by 400

I have a client who gets this error on a daily basis. She's running GP2010 hosted on a separate server. I tried replacing the DYNAMICS.set file with one from another (working) workstation, to no avail. When I remote into the GP server from this user's workstation (using my own admin account creds) and then log back out, GP seems to work just fine - no error. Any idea what would cause this error to recur every day?

Frank is right. I would first check to see if this is a security issue. Right click on the Dynamics Icon and select "Run as Administrator". If the problem remains then you could remove one dictionary after another from the Dynamics.SET until you find the offending dictionary. Follow these steps to adjust the set file.

From time to time in Terminal Services environments that user profile becomes corrupted. Deleting the user profile and recreating it will usually fix problems like this.  You can spend oodles and gobs of time trying to find the exact cause, but the solution is typically the same.

Is she able to login at all or can't get past the error?  I would suspect a permissions issue for that user on the folder or .set file if she can't get in at all.
