GP Licensing query

Hi all,

We are currently experiencing an issue where Microsoft has de-activated a module (Customisation Site Enabler). We only realised this when we purchased 10 additional user licenses and tested the new keys. There has been quite a bit of communication back and forth and the final response from Microsoft South Africa is that Customisation Site Enabler was disabled when Integration Manager - Financial was requested to be de-activated last year. I don't remember Integration Manager and Customisation Site Enabler being linked in any way and just need other knowledgeable input on this. We currently have customisations using this module and have not been able to implement the new keys for over two months now. The net result is that we have users at month end who are unable to work because we can't implement the additional user license keys.

I currently am under the impression that Microsoft is just that as an excuse because they can't get to the bottom of why this module was de-activated. Our GP VAR has also been useless in terms of fighting this case for us.

Thanks,

Ritesh

There is no cojnnection between Integration Manager and the Customization Site License.

Integration Manager,Customization Site License and Modifier with VBA are all separate modules and are sold separately. If you log into CustomerSource and look at your modules you will see whether you are licensed or not. I would tell Microsoft to show you the deactivation form to see if Customization Site license was on that form. If it was, then that was a mistake. You can also tell by looking at your invoices for maintenance. You annual maintenance fee would have down by some percentage of $5,000 USD. I would escalate this at Microsoft and have them review your account and get the Customization Site License back onto your account.

    Richard,

It would be fabulous if it was that easy...

See my thread about Manufacturing Forecasting being removed along with Demand Planner when it was "retired" from the price list:

Hopefully none of your Customers get shafted this way.

Tim, does the Customization Site License work the same way as Manufacturing Sales Forecasting? I was not aware of any change affecting the Customzation Site License. That would be insane as plenty of companies have customizations and this would disable all these customizations. I am not saying that Microsoft does things that make no sense but this would be a whopper!!!

    Richard,

The only thing that I can surmise is that the licence management software that Sales Operations uses is somehow able to "bundle"  or create a dependency between products.  It seems like it depends on how the modules were originally purchased.  When the "parent" is removed, the "children" go too.

In Ritesh's case I wonder if the Integration manager was the "parent" in a bundle that was granted during implementation.  I think new customers get IM and some other stuff for a limited time during implementation.  Somehow Maintenance got turned on and everything was good until they removed IM.  And here are the results.

Anyhow,  I guess I am not alone in my disappointment...

Tim, I hear what you are saying but Integration Manager,Customization Site License and Modifier with VBA are all separate modules. It is very odd that by turning one of he lost the other. I would think they would at least let him purchase the Customization Site License again. If not, may you or I could try to get it for him.

    Richard,

I agree, Ritesh's situation is curious.  You're right, usually IM, Customization Site and Modifier are typically treated as separate issues.  Microsoft will certainly let them purchase the Customization Site Licence (at today's list price).  You would be the one to help,  I am not a Partner.

Funny how we don't get Microsoft folks "chiming in" on these threads?    ;-)

Something just smells fishy with this one. Perhaps international sales are different or their partner just does not care. Ritesh, if you want to provide your company name and authorized telephone number I can inquire from my end or you could then simply tell your partner you want to purchase the customization site license. I do not believe sales operations folks monitor this site. If a tech were to see this they would just defer to sales operations anyway. The goal right now is to get those custimizations working again so I would pay the price and then dicker later about why the module was deactivated in the first place. Most likely you will prevail and them Microsoft will offer a credit which you coould apply to next year's annual maintenance renewal.

Thanks for all the feedback Richard and Tim,

That is exactly what we are doing at the moment...purchasing the module again and will continue the fight going forward. As per Tim's comments, I was not aware that situations could exist where you get some modules for "free" during implementation. Microsoft's official feedback on this has been that Customisation Site Enabler and Integration Manager were bundled together and when we de-activated  IM, it in turn de-activated CSE.

Richard - any help on this will be appreciated as we have been witnessing a ping pong match as this issue was bounced between Microsoft South Africa and Microsoft USA. Now I feel that we aren't going to get any further with it. Our site name is Multichoice Africa Limited. Please use your contacts there to assist where possible....

    Thanks,

Ritesh, please send me your authorized telephone number and I will forward a request over to Sales Operations. NOw all you need is the Custimzation Site License and not Integration Manager, correct?

    Hi,

Correct - all we need is CSL.

    Thanks!
