GP 2010 upgrade

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I am upgrading from GP10 to 2010 and am having trouble with utilities not seeing the company databases. It has created Dynamics but doesn't not see the company databases already sitting on the server waiting to be upgraded.  I cannot find anything on KB. I am now regretting pushing my client to upgrade so quickly after its release. Has anyone run into this problem or have a resolve for me.

    Hi Nicole,

Don't panic. This could be a simple issue. Can you describe what you did? Looks like you installed GP on another instance of SQL or something like that. When you say it has created DYNAMICS - how do you know this?

Installing a new version of GP will not create a DYNAMICS database - unless its a fresh install (ie DYNAMICS does not exist already). If you are using an ODBC that points to the old server then when utilities launches it will recognise that it has to upgrade the DYNAMICS database and then the company databases.

This is not a known issue with 2010 upgrades - its almost 100% an issue with your approach.

Remember to back everything up before you start. Also, in the future I would recommend you do not upgrade first time in the production enviornment. Always do a test upgrade first in a test enviornment.

    Nicole -

V10 to GP2010 upgrades usually go very well.

I am confused - you state 'It created Dynamics' - an upgrade doesn't create a new database - it updates the existing database.

Did you download and follow the upgrade instructions?

It almost sounds like you performed a fresh install of GP2010 and did not perform an upgrade?
