AX 2012 R3 CU8 Inventory Aging questions

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by

Hello, we recently went live on AX and now several months later we are seeing strange things with the IM > Inventory aging report.  I have a few questions:

Using the "As on date" parameter, the result I expected was being able to generate an aging report as of that date.  For example, the report would show what my on-hand inventory count was as of that date, as well as the aging state.  Is this actually the intended function of this parameter?  When we run the aging for prior dates, the "on hand" number is always the current number.

Can anyone advise on where specifically the data for this report is being drawn?  In our environment, the report is putting a large amount of inventory in the 120+ bucket (erroneously) and we're trying to understand why.

Unfortunately we are in the midst of an audit, the auditors want to see our aging as of certain dates, and expect our transaction history to match up.  Thanks in advance for any info!

Could you screenshot your report parameter

Sure, here's the parameters.  In this screenshot I'm using today's date, but if I go back to a prior date i.e. 12/31/2017, it reports the same on-hand qty that I have today.

I am selecting a specific item just for testing purposes.

    Hi,

You can have a look at the following page that contains links to a Video on this Report.

    blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/.../new-costing-features-in-dynamics-ax-2012-r3

On the right-hand side you can find additional links - e.g. to the Dynamics learning Portal - where you can find additional information.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

Are you sure there is movement for that item in Jan 2018?

The as of date intended as per your understanding backdated the inventory qty as per mentioned date.

So something not right and maybe bug or something. I dont have this issue though CU12.

However using this report will only do aging by qty.

Cost wise it will be using average cost of total qty,

    So Qty = FIFO

    Cost = Average price.

So let say total qty 100, cost 900 avg cost = 9 USD.

    Dec 2017 purchase 5 @ 20USD = 100USD.

    Jan 2018 purchase 95 pcs @  8.421 = 800 USD.

    In AGING report :

    ITemId  // Jan 2018 // Dec 2018

    ItemA   // Qty = 95, cost = 855  //(qty = 5, cost 45)

If you need aging FIFO for qty and cost you might need to look another report call inventory aging by inventory dimension and inventory aging by item group.

Hi Ludwig, thank you for the response, but the link to the video does not work.

Before posting my question I saw your response on other threads and tried to find a working copy of the video... but I couldn't.

    Hi,

Let me try contacting the PM who made that video.

    Will keep you updated.

Hi Chandra, thank you, your answer helps me confirm that this report doesn't work quite the way we thought!

When selecting a prior date, it is costing the current on-hand inventory based on cost at that previous day, yes?

    Yes it is

As on date is definitely for the purpose
