Inventory Valuation "Show results" vs "Limit totals to"

When we generate the Inventory Valuation Report, we can select Filter in the "Show results" section and also in the "Limit totals to:" section. Some fields such as Global Dimensions and Location are available in both sections. What is the difference? when should we Filter in "Show results" and when should we Filter in "Limit totals to:"? Please advise.

RE: Inventory Valuation "Show results" vs "Limit totals to"

    Hi

The inventory valuation report runs against the item list first, then for each item goes into the ledger entries to get the detail

The show results section is the filter applied to the items themselves, so as an example, if you were to set a filter on location in the show results section, only item cards where the item card has that location will be on the valuation (Regardless of where the item is sold out of or bought into)

If you set a filter on the location in the limit totals to section you are effectively setting a filter on the sub ledger,

So with NO filter on the show results all items will be displayed, but with a location filter on the limit totals, only quantities in that location will be displayed

    Hope this makes sense

Just to add, another way to understand it,    'Show results'  selects which lines to show.  'Limit Totals'  selects what will be included in the totals on those lines.  i. e.  for which dates or dimensions.  :-)
