D365 VSTS Packages - AXDeployableRuntime VS AXModelSource (difference)

Dear All,

I downloaded a VSTS build package. I cannot apply it directly on UAT Or Production.

When i extracted it i found 2 files  AXDeployableRuntime & AXModelSource.

what are the differences between these 2 files? i am considering that AXDeployableRuntime is my actual LCS deployable package.

The deployable runtime package is the one that you want to apply to UAT and production. The model source package contains only the source code.

In VSTS you can choose to download only the deployable runtime, or model source, by expanding the main package before downloading it

Is the AXDeployableRuntime a merged package? And with source code file, how to deploy the source code to other system?

AXDeployableRuntime is not a merged package.

A merged package means a package where you have merged your deployable package with a Microsoft update package in Lifefycle services Asset library. You can merge these packages to reduce downtime in your prod system because with merged package you can install MS update and your code in one deployment.

You can't "deploy" source code to other system.

Developers in the same project use Azure DevOps to share (and store) source code.

If you want to send source code outside your project, you export model in dev system and import in another dev system: docs.microsoft.com/.../models-export-import

I have two packages checked in the DevOps, and after build, there is only one AXDeployableRuntime, does it mean if I apply this AXDeployableRuntime, it will deploy two packages to the target environment?

    Thanks,

The deployable package contains all your customizations, no matter how many packages/models you have created.
