WIA driver on terminal Server to activate direct scanning

We have a terminal server in a hosted environment and are looking to directly scan into Great Plains.  We have a VPN, however the scanning software is not able to be installed on the Terminal Server.

We have tried TSScan to pull the drivers in, however TSScan and an alternative, RemoteScan Enterprise, utilize a TWAIN driver and does not pull in the local driver to the server to activate the scan button in Great Plains.  Has anyone see this before or have a possible work around we can try?

If anyone has a similar issue in the future we found a third party, www.fabulatech.com/scanner-for-remote-desktop-download.html, that works similar to TSScan and pulls scanners in and activates the scan button.

How did you get the scan button to activate with this software? I've installed it and the scan button still doesn't want to activate.

    TIA,

    Patrick

    1. I would first make sure that you have both the client on the desktop and also the server version installed.

    2. After they were completed, we installed the printer/scanner on the desktop with it's WIA driver.

    3. We then defaulted the settings as followed:

We did have to play around with the settings to have the printer default to its WIA driver on the server.  We found that the printer/scanner combos must have the WIA driver on the desktop to pull in as a WIA on the server upon login.

Thank you, Samantha! I was hoping the Fabulatech software would translate the scanners TWAIN driver to WIA. It has proved to be problematic and the canon scanners I have do not appear to have the option to use WIA.  I fear that this is an issue that can only be resolved with new scanners. I am going to purchase a new scanner and try to use the Desktop experience feature of Server 2012 R2 to install the WIA driver without the need for 3rd party tools. I'll update the thread when progress is made.

Please do update when you know.  My first try was to use the existing VPN to install the driver on the server directly.  This did not work because the scanner driver was incompatible.    To save time I would look up a scanner/printer that you want to purchase and download the driver from online to see if it would be compatible before you buy the new equipment.
