Data Mining / Smart tags Excel 2010 & GP2010

Hi

We have set up a pretty elaborate demo environment for Dynamics GP 2010 that includes Analysis Services, SRS etc - all the bells and whistles.

We have also downloaded the data mining tools for Excel and have started playing with these - all very cool.  I am confused about a video I saw that shows links back to GP from what used to be called Smart Tags.  (Link to the video - about six minutes in gives the demo http://www.microsoft.com/dynamics/gp2010-uslaunch/default.aspx).

All my research suggests that Smart Tags no longer exist for the versions we are using.  Does anyone have any idea how to set up what has been demoed for this part of the video?  I can't for the life of me figure it out.

Cheers

Heather

    Hi Heather,

What you're seeing is probably the drill back/drill through feature in GP 2010.  Essentially it's a URL that available in some of the GP views and through Excel Report Builder that can be used in SRS and Excel reports to drill back to a window in Dynamics GP.  For example, if you look at the Customer view, there are several fields at the end of the table that say thing like "Customer Number for Drillback".  This is the URL that can be used as a hyperlink to drill back to the Customer Card in GP.

Let me know and I'd be happy to send you a sample in Excel that will work with the Fabrikam company.

    Thanks
    Mike

Thanks Mike - it would be great if you could send me a sample in Excel.

I have actually just logged a call with Microsoft with a related error message to these fields.  If I try to drill through from some of the sample SRS reports I get a two things happen.

    1. Internet Explorer asks for permission to use the program Dynamics Protocol Handler and the address is one of the ones from the field you mention.

    2. When I "Allow" I then get an error message saying Dynamics GP Drillback - Service Endpoint was not found.

The path that it is looking for is:

    dgpp://dynamicsgpdrillback/?DatabaseInstance=&ServerName=GPCOMPUTER&CompanyID=NZCO1&ProductID=0&ActionType=OPEN&FunctionName=OpenAccountIndex&ACTINDX=7

Is there something we have missed with the install that means we are missing a link?

    Cheers

Well look at that!  It works on my test server, but on my client I'm receiving the "Service endpoint not found." message.  I'll be working on this today, but let me know if you find a solution.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Ok.  I'm making some progress on this.  I found that if I created a new company, the drillback feature works perfectly with the new company.  It will not work with the TWO company.

Are you experiencing the issue with TWO or with another database?

    Hi Mike

Thanks for putting some work in on this.  I am experiencing it with a different company database.  We have set up a local database with current data (rather than relying on the TWO data) and it isn't working with that one.

I have had issues with applications in the past with Regional Settings - could this be an issue?

    Cheers

    Heather
