Upgrade to GP 2010 Freezes with no clue as to why

Posted on by 75,730

Does anyone have any idea what would cause a GP 9 to GP 2010 upgrade to simply stop? I have been given a GP 7.5 database to upgrade to GP 2016 R2. The upgrade to GP 9 went fine and now I want to make the jump to GP 2010. I launch GP Utilities and right after I see the box about synchronizing it just stops. When I watch SQL Profiler I see these commands and then nothing.

SELECT COUNT(CMPANYID) FROM DYNAMICS.dbo.SY01500

SELECT COUNT(ListDictID) FROM DYNAMICS.dbo.SY07225

SELECT COUNT(SITENAME) FROM DYNAMICS.dbo.SY40800

I have noticed messages when I try to log in to GP about their license being only for MSDE and I have their data in full SQL. I do not know if that has anything to do with it. I am using the same images I have used in the passed for these types of upgrades so it must be something in their DYNAMICS database.

I'm happy to hear you were able to get the upgrade to continue successfully. Thanks for the update. Have a great day.

I tried applying the latest service pack to GP 2010 and then the upgrade proceeded normally.

    Hello Richard,

While it'll slow it down further, I would capture a dexsql.log, to see what it shows last in the log when it appears to hang.

What normally happens after you see it synch the dictionary files with the account framework settings, is update the system tables.

As for the MSDE message, in earlier versions of GP, in the GP registration keys, they would put an MSDE mark there, which for those versions, we would refer to MBS Operations for new keys, to have the MSDE marker removed.

In the SY03500 system table, is there any old GP 9.0 keys present? If so, try removing them, then see if you still get referenced for an MSDE marker or not. You don't need the old keys for GP 9.0 in the database in order to upgrade to GP 2010 and beyond.

    Thanks,
