Fixed Assets Register

I am trying to extract a fixed assets register from Dynamics AX (I think its 2012 version).

I need this to show me all asset numbers, names and grouping; acquisition date and price; depreciation value model and depreciation periods; depreciation to date and net book value.

The closest report I have found is the Fixed Asset Balances report to which I can apply a lookup to bring in the acquisition date.  The problem with this report however is that it is a live report.  I need to run the report at a past date e.g. 30-Jan-2016.

Can anyone suggest ways in which I might achieve this please?

    Hi,

All values for your fixed asset register report should be available in the fixedasset table and fixedassetbook table.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

Thank you for your reply Ludwig but unfortunately I don't understand what you mean by this?   How do I access these tables?

    RE: Fixed Assets Register

    Hello ShirlyC,

The post is classified as Reporting/BI so I thought you want to develop your own fixed asset cube/SSRS report for which you would need to access those tables in the AOT.

If you are just interested in generating a fixed asset statement "report/register" you can make use of the standard AX "fixed asset statement report" available under GL/reports/external/fixed asset statement.

Please note that this requires setting up fixed asset statement rows in the setup section of the fixed asset module, which is a manual process. That is, every time you add a fixed asset you need to modify this setup.

Yet, Brandon has published some code that makes this manual setup and adjustment superflous. Please see: community.dynamics.com/.../microsoft-dynamics-ax-setup-fixed-asset-statement-rows-effortlessly

For additional details on the fixed asset statement report see e.g. technet.microsoft.com/.../aa589775.aspx

    Hope this helps,

    Ludwig

    RE: Fixed Assets Register

    Thank Ludwig.

I have looked through the cube options and I have found some of what I need but I'm not sure if this is going to help my problem with the date.  If I am able to build this report in the cube, will I be able to run the report at a historic date?  My biggest problem is that we regularly create a fixed asset which has multiple purchase invoices/vouchers attached to it and then can be spread over a number of months.  AX reports the original acquisition date and the total of all the vouchers even the ones after my month end date.

I'm really struggling with this and can't believe that AX doesn't have this as a standard report.  It feels like a basic accounting need to me.

    RE: Fixed Assets Register

    Hello Shirly,

Well AX has some basic fixed asset reports available such as the fixed asset statement in GL or some similar country-specific reports but nothing that is really attractive. For that reason most customers I worked with developed something on their own either based on a cube or via a specialised SSRS report. I onced described how you can make use of the Management Reporter to built the fixed asset register (dynamicsax-fico.com/;search=Go). Yet, this requires setting up a lot of accounts and implementing some minor system modifications. Nothing really satisfying. I guess you simply have to struggle your way through this "jungle" to get the report you need.

    All the best,

    Ludwig

    RE: Fixed Assets Register

    Success at last!

I have run the Fixed Asset Balances report (which is as at today).

I have extracted the list of fixed asset transactions dated after the month end, and applied a lookup in excel to adjust these transactions out of the Asset Balances report.

The adjusted Asset Balances report agrees to my general ledger at month end.

I've also maintained an audit trail of my adjustments to the original report to keep the auditors happy.
