Different estimated revenue values in Pipeline value

Posted on by 145
Hi all,

I am having an issue with the Pipeline Value on opportunities. The totale Pipeline value does not match total estimated revenue of the actual opportunity. Please see the attached example.

In the screenshot you can see that the Pipeline value equals $61.520,68 whereas the value in the 'Est. revenue' column on the actual opportunity is $61.306,50. I have looked into all other columns on the opportunity table but not one of them has a value of $61.520,68 for this opportunity. I am using the default settings for this pipeline view.

Does anyone have an idea what can cause this difference?

Thank you in advance.

Different estimated revenue values in Pipeline value

This discrepancy between the Pipeline Value and the Estimated Revenue in your Dynamics 365 Opportunities could be due to several reasons. Here are some of the common causes and troubleshooting steps to help you identify and resolve the issue:

    1. Check for Currency Exchange Rates

    • If your organization deals with multiple currencies, the Pipeline Value may be calculated based on an exchange rate conversion. Dynamics 365 often converts opportunity revenue values to a base currency, which may cause slight discrepancies due to rounding or exchange rate fluctuations.
    • Solution: Verify if the opportunity currency matches the currency in the Pipeline Value calculation. Check Settings > Business Management > Currencies to see if exchange rates have been updated recently.

    2. Review Forecast or Rollup Fields on the Opportunity

    • The Pipeline Value in Dynamics 365 is sometimes based on a rollup field or forecast calculation, which may not always align perfectly with the Est. Revenue on each individual opportunity, especially if there are custom calculations involved.
    • Solution: Check if any custom fields or rollups are influencing the Pipeline Value calculation. Go to the Opportunity form and see if there are additional revenue-related fields that might contribute to the discrepancy.

    3. Pipeline View Using Weighted Revenue (Probability)

    • In some cases, the Pipeline view might be configured to use weighted revenue based on the opportunity Probability percentage, rather than the full Estimated Revenue.
    • For example, if an opportunity has an Estimated Revenue of $61,306.50 and a Probability of 90%, the calculated Pipeline Value could be close to $61,520.68 if rounding is applied in the view or dashboard.
    • Solution: Verify if the Pipeline Value in your view is using weighted revenue. Go to the Opportunity view’s settings or dashboard configuration and check if it’s applying a Probability filter or custom calculation.

    4. Delayed Data Refresh on Dashboards

    • Sometimes, Dynamics 365 dashboards do not update instantly and may show slightly outdated data, especially if there have been recent changes to the opportunities.
    • Solution: Refresh the dashboard or view, and clear your browser cache. You could also try accessing the view from a different browser to see if the values update correctly.

    5. Check Opportunity Products (If Using Line Items)

    • If the opportunity has Opportunity Products (line items), the Estimated Revenue might be derived from the total of the products. In some cases, the Pipeline Value calculation might be incorrectly including additional charges, discounts, or taxes.
    • Solution: Open the opportunity record, go to the Products tab, and verify that the total matches the Estimated Revenue. Ensure that there are no additional charges or custom calculations that could impact the Pipeline Value.

    6. Custom Calculations or Plugins Affecting Estimated Revenue

    • If there are any custom workflows, plugins, or business rules configured in your environment, they might be modifying either the Estimated Revenue or the Pipeline Value independently.
    • Solution: Check with your system administrator or developer to review any custom business logic applied to the Opportunity entity, especially focusing on Estimated Revenue and Pipeline calculations.

    7. Field Security or Permissions

    • In some cases, field security profiles can restrict certain users from viewing real-time values on specific fields, which can lead to discrepancies in what is displayed on the Pipeline.
    • Solution: Ensure that you have full permissions on the Estimated Revenue field and any custom fields related to revenue calculations.

    Summary of Troubleshooting Steps

    1. Check for currency exchange rate differences.
    2. Review forecast/rollup fields that might be contributing to the Pipeline Value.
    3. Confirm if weighted revenue (Probability) is used in the Pipeline view.
    4. Refresh the dashboard or view to rule out data refresh delays.
    5. Verify Opportunity Products if the opportunity uses line items.
    6. Check for custom calculations or plugins affecting revenue fields.
    7. Ensure appropriate field security permissions.
