Modifying entry point to change license type

Hello,

We are trying to bring down our license cost for AX and one of the action items identified is to convert enterprise license used for vendor invoice journal approvals to functional license. There are only two ways I could think of doing this as the entry point for Invoice journal approval is categorized as enterprise license.

1. Enable email based approvals for approvers. I believe this will only account for the business connector license and individual user license do not come into picture. I am yet to validate this though.

2. Create a copy of entry point responsible for AP Invoice journal approval and change it to a functional type.

Modify the security privileges and roles to refer the new entry point and update menu to reflect the change. I am aware that this might not be the best solution nor a best practice but I can't think of any drawbacks if I use this approach. Will this be a license infringement though the change is done on the CUS layer?

Any expert comments/suggestions please?

    Hi Praveen,

Bypassing the license levels is illegal. Microsoft intended to have certain functionality to be functional or enterprise. Ifnyou create new entry points for this, you are conflicting with the license terms of Dynamics AX. So please forget this option.

When you are using email based approvals, possibly you still have to grant access rights to the invoice journal. This is dependent on the workflow design. To be able to see if you can bring down the license type you have to create a new privilege with only the menu items which are defined on the workflow type and approval AOT elements. Then you have a privilege with all approval options and also access to the document (journal) itself. Then check what license type remains. If this is still enterprise, you have to meet the standard Microsoft licensing and possibly needs to buy more enterprise users.
