Hello,

we are having our first dynamics 365 project for a customer on premises, the client wants CRM and AX, I already downloaded the local VHD from LCS for AX, but am wondering is it the same for CRM ? or I should only install CRM 2016 since it is on premises ?

Sorry, till now there is no Dyn 365 only install media.

only to install CRM 2016 and upgrade it ?

You can install CRM 2016 e.g. from your MSDN subscription and upgrade to Dyn365 via this download:

www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

Depending on you requirements you need buy dual-use right licenses for Dyn365 or upgrade CRM2016 SKUs to Dyn365.
