User doesn't exist in Dynamics

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to investigate behavior of automated adding user to the environment to understand how that works and make it more predictable.

I've Dataverse environment with Dynamics 365 Sales app deployed. The environment is configured with a gateway security group and I have separate security group through which I assign licence for the D365 Sales app. A user is added to both groups and I expected that the user account will appear in the environment but that doesn't happen. When I try to establish in code whether user is finally there I get the message "user doesn't exist in Dynamics". I've waited couple of days for some kind of trigger but still nothing.

I'm aware that I can add user manually. Making user to log in to the environment would also most probably make the user to be created in this environment. bBt is there some documentation regarding what triggers user addition in automated way? Maybe there is some step I missed you can guide me to?

Any help or pointer would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

    Hi eLWu,

In a tenant if a user has the appropriate licenses assigned, to access environments, the users sync into all the environments automatically.

If users were added to security groups, the security role should be associated with the environment.

1.Have you assigned sales license to the specific user?

    • If a security group is associated with an environment, only users with Dataverse licenses or per app plan that are members of the environment security group will be created as users in the environment.

2.Check the security role is nested security group?

3.Have you can see the specific user in PPAC?

If not, you can use the following procedure to add users manually in PPAC:

Moreover, you can use Force Sync user action of Power Platform Management Connector.

    Hi Leah,

Thank you for this brilliant and rich answer.

in my case it was the configuration of nested security groups that you described in point 2 that was causing the problem I had not expected to have.

If I see correctly, in that point 2, is that a quote from some source you can share and tell where to look it up?

    Thanks again!
