Code updates stopped for GP10

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I am working with the Year-End Payroll update and noticed the below Note on the download location. Could I get more of an explanation of the consequences of this if we stay on GP10. We are a small comapny and were planning on updating GP in early 2014, but now I'm wondering if we need to move that date up because of this.

I see we still get technical support, but that might not do much good if a problem is fixed by an service pack or hot fix.

NOTE:  Microsoft will provide a 2012 Year-End Update to all U.S and Canadian Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 Customers.  Microsoft will also provide Round 1 U.S. tax tables for the 2013 Payroll reporting year.  Following these releases, no additional code update will be released for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0, due to end of Mainstream Support in the Support Lifecycle for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0.  Technical support for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10 will continue to be provided through the Extended Support phase which will end on 10/10/2017.  If you are currently using Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0, you must upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 or Microsoft Dynamics GP 12 (Due to release in December 2012) to receive any further regulatory and or code updates following the January 2013 Round 1 Tax Update.

An additional note to be aware of.   One of the code updates that will be coming out in March 2013 for GP2010 (it more than likely will not be available for Version 10) will be an update to the Federal 941 forms.   The change to the form will be needed to accomodate the new surcharge on Medicare tax.

If your employees are just in one state and that state's tax rates do not change all you have to worry about are the federal changes. No harm in adjusting those rates manually just sure you have all the proper documentaiton when you go into change any rates or caps.

We will certainly be upgrading sooner than we expected then. Either way, the way things are going, I'm guessing we will still have a tax code update before we can upgrade. It sounds as though we may have to do a manual update to the tax tables. I'm sure it's not something encouraged, but are their directions on how do this until we can get upgraded?

If you using payroll for GP, the last tax code update you will receive is Round 1 for 2013. Given the fiasco currently occurring down in Wash D.C. you can rest assured that there will be tax code updates required priopr to 2014. I would accelarate your update schedule to at least go to GP 2010 as soon as possible. Updating the tax tables you can always do manually but without updated tax code you would be out of compliance.
