Change product family as some of them are not aligned properly.

I need to change product family in the Product Catalog as some of them are not aligned properly. What is the best sequential way to do that without any repercussions?

Can I edit it or I have to retire the product and then create new ones under the desired family?

Can I use the import excel option to create multiple line items under a family? or I have to create it 1 by 1?
