How can we upload a list of new and existing contacts straight into a segment?

Hi,

I was hoping someone can help me. We have few different opt in capture forms that generate web subscribers (not into dynamics). I'd like to import these subscriber lists into dynamics marketing and create contacts if they're not already there, but I'd like them to be automatically added into a static segment.

For example, I have a list of contest A subscribers, and during the upload I want to create a segment called "Contest A subscribers" where all these contest A subscribers will sit. This way I will have them ready in a segment for their welcome email.

Can you please give me more information on how to achieve this?

Thank you,

Adele

    Hi Adele,

Since the capture form you’re using is not in Dynamics, it is recommended to add a custom field into Contact entity as a flag. If the contacts are generated by the form as subscribers, set the field as true.

Then you can create the static segment and add the contacts with a query. Set the condition as xxx equals true.

However, a static segment will not automatically add increasing contacts according to the condition.

Why not try to achieve this with a dynamic segment?

    Hi Nya,

there are many different scenarios there - we are onboarding to dynamics and moving our customer lists from the previous ESP opt ins into D365 - so we'd like to move the customer lists into the accordingly named segments.

How do we approach uploading opt in lists, for instance, captured in store and not through an online form? or for example customers opted in via sponsorship events? There can be many instances where data isn't going to flowing into D365, but we'd want to upload and make sure all these people are in their correct segments.

So in all these cases, we need to add a custom field into Contact entity as a flag - so if we would have 30 lists, then we'd have to create 30 different custom fields with different flags? With every upload a new field and flag?

    Thanks,

    Adele

    Hi Adele,

    Sorry for the late reply.

If there are such a large amount of lists, you might consider creating this custom field as a non-flag field. For example, a field with the type of single line of text. Populate this field with some of the characteristics of a List, such as a number or letter symbol. It just needs to adjust the condition in your segment. (XXX equals 1)

If this helped you, I'd appreciate it if you'd mark this as a Verified Answer, which may in turn help others as well.

    Best Regards,

    Nya
