External Identity Username calculation

We are currently testing ADX portal using Azure AD accounts for authentication. Currently the only sure way to associate a CRM contact with an Azure AD account is to go through the registration process on the front end. What we notice is that the external identity username is some form of encrypted hash which must be based on the Azure AD account somehow.

We want to automate the creation of contacts but currently have no idea how this external identity username is derived.

Can anyone provide details of how this works please?

If we don't create the contact automatically then the user can enter what details they like at registration which may be different from their details in the Azure AD account. This will only lead to long term confusion I'm sure....

The way to do this is to send contacts a registration code which will link their authorization to the existing contact in CRM - see community.adxstudio.com/.../invitations

There is no way of guaranteeing what account that the user uses to link to their local account.

    Hope this helps!

The interesting thing about this is that the external identity username is always the same value if it's linked to the same Azure AD account which means it must be calculated against the Azure AD account. In fact, if you delete the contact and then manually add it back using the same external identity value as was there previously then this links back to the same Azure AD account, therefore the calculation of this value must be possible.

Additionally, if you are running a portal authenticating against on premise AD using ADFS the external identity username is of the format <DOMAIN_NAME>/<SAMACCOUNTNAME> so you can create contacts and link to an external ID. Therefore, why should this not be possible when using Azure AD?

All we need to know is how the external ID username is calculated.

    Any help appreciated.

AFAIK the external identity value is presented by the external authentication provider and so you have no way of calculating it.
