SL v7.0 Performance

We have a site that is so slow it is making us crazy.  We have unchecked the Publishers Certification checking in internet explorer, we have add the sql network client utility.  Screens seem to be faster in the morning than after lunch.  They have a new SL server.  All workstations exceed requirements.  some users come in through Citrix other users are in using the Solomon Client one is not faster than another.  Equally slow no matter how they access the database.

Any suggestions?

I think this is the new link (article ID 941009). It works on PartnerSource; not sure about CustomerSource:

Paul - this Hot Topic link does not work.  Could CustomerSource have changed since you posted?

    Hi Sandy,

We noted similar issues during a recent SL upgrade at a client. It turned out that they had a poor configuration in their network switches that was mostly to blame (the switches had been daisy-chained together 4-deep). It wasn't discovered until the upgrade took place and users complained.

For anyone experiencing issues,  I would suggest looking into the following:

    1. Refer to this hot topic, which goes into a lot of detail of things to investigate. https://mbs.microsoft.com/customersource/support/selfsupport/hottopics/sl08week19.htm?printpage=false

    2. If you are running FRx SP10 with SL 7.0, it is important to get the hot fix for an issue in one of the triggers. This trigger caused database locking and other performance issues during batch releases, project allocator processing, and GLTran posting. The problem was in the frx_frl_acct_code_insert trigger: https://mbs.microsoft.com/knowledgebase/KBDisplay.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;957430

    3. Version 7.0 does require some additional network bandwidth (mostly due to the .net runtime I believe), which in aggregate for all users can cause a problem if it pushes the existing infrastructure beyond an acceptable level. Upgrading or reconfiguring the network might be a good way to go if it is dated. If possible, gigabit speed throughout the network (including out to client workstations) is good.

    Hope this helps,
    Paul Phillips

    Sandy,

I used to be in the consulting world and implemented SL 7.0 SP1 at three different sites.  I asked the support group (plumbline) about this issue at Convergence, as the company I am now with is looking to upgrade to take advantage of the EDD (Electronic Document Delivery) and Windows Auth.  They recommended doing a full install on all workstations, terminal servers, or citrix servers running Dynamics SL.  The reason for this slowness has to do with the .Net Framework.  I am not a programmer so I cannot give specifics.

Do you have a full install on the Citrix Server(s)?  If not, you might want to try this first and see if it helps.

    Hi Sandy

If you are on a current enhancement plan you have access to unlimited free training via customersource. One of the courses available covers installation and performance tuning of Microsoft Dyamics SL 7.0. I would suggest you grab the course and take a look at the section on identifying bottlenecks. Once you understand the root cause there you should be able to easily remedy it.The course can be found here https://mbs.microsoft.com/customersource/training/trainingmaterials/student/course8831.htm?printpage=false
