New fileds & Existing fields in MS CRM

Hi,

I like to know about the fields in MS CRM, while customizing the forms in any entity as per the client request, its better required to use 'new_fields' or to use some existing fields??

Say, When I need to add a new text field in an contact entity, Is it required to add a new fields to CRM, than adding some unused fields in CRM?

If am adding an new fields to CRM, what is the advantage & disadvantage??

Is using the unused fields in CRM for  the requirement  will be causing some issues later?

    Hi Kishor,

You asked a lot of good questions so I'll try to hit them all.

Concerning prefixes, it's always best to create an unmanaged solution with a publisher for your group so they have a unique prefix. There can be conflicts with other solutions you try to use, so if people use their own prefixes it greatly reduces the issues.

On repurposing a field vs creating a new one, I usually create a new field. Repurposing won't necessarily cause problems but you don't always know everything that system field does. Down the road you may even need to use that original field and now you have other data in it.

It's easy to create a new field and that's how I handle it - you control everything that will ever interact with that field and nobody will mistake it for something else.

hope tHis helps! I'd appreciate if you'd mark this as a Verified answer.

    Thanks,

     Aiden
