Should we change the user date to 12/31/11 and then close the calendar year in AR and AP?

Jane, have a look at my blog articles for Year End Close - gp2themax.blogspot.com/.../Year%20End%20Close. There's a separate post for each module in this series of articles.
You would be closing them individually and of course, the 2010 before the 2011. There are steps listed in the following articles from Microsoft. See Articles 875169 Year End Payables, 857444 Year End Recievables and 888033 General Ledger Year End Close. There are also additional closing procedures for Fixed Assets, and Analytical Accounting as well. If you have other models does do a lookup on Year End closing and the module.
