Inventory Issues Batches won't release

There were several issues batches in inventory that would not release (error message said quantity or cost will go negative).  They all had one inventory item in common.  We were not even able to enter an adjustment batch against a particular receipt for the inventory item.  This was an inventory item that would not appear in available quantity even though the receipt record was visible through Inventory Transaction Inquiry.  We ran integrity check with no errors found. 
 
We entered a new adjustment batch putting some more inventory in the system just to record the sales thinking we would come back and fix the additional inventory quantity later.  Now using the new receipt number we get System Message 15989: The following trapable error occurred: 5. 
 
I'm out of ideas.

     I had an incident report in with Microsoft at the same time and they came back first.  It turns out that the problem was with the record in the itemcost table.  The time in the RcptDate field should be set to 00:00:00.  My batch had a time other than 00:00:00 because the batch had been edited and the time set manually.  Hopefully, this helps someone else out there.
