Web Service Key Depreciation in BC SaaS - how to use OAuth?

Hi Guys

In the Web Services config screen in BC SaaS, there is a warning saying Web Service Keys are to be depreciated in 2022 Wave 1 and OAuth should be used.

I've looked online and I cannot find out how OAuth works with pulling data from the Web Services.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated

I have the same question (0)

    Further info:

We are using a BI Tool (not Power BI) to pull data from BC Webservices using a web service key via basic authentication. We need to continue this once the key method is depreciated. I've looked into Azure Data Factory and that also uses Basic Auth via web service key...

    Hello,

If you're looking for a S2S type solution, there isn't one yet.  All authentication with Business Central needs to be through a User sign-in.  Web Service key method is still the only way to have non-interactive authentication for now.  I don't know when they will have a solution for this out but I assume it will be prior to Wave 2 2021 release.

    Thanks,

Hi Chris, thanks for the answer! Yeah, this would be a non-interactive flow, however could authenticate once with a Microsoft Account and cache the results? Pretty sure the Power BI BC Connector does this. Can you shed any light on that approach?

If not, I understand we'll just have to wait for Microsoft to release the details of how they're going to plug this feature gap. What's the likelihood of this depreciation being dropped? Seems odd to announce with no way of carrying out the same level of functionality

Here are some links that have been previously provided to us on this.

We have created powershell samples that will connect to BC using the different AAD flows.
AAD documentation also provides many samples, using different languanges/runtimes.

Originally web service key was announced to be deprecated this year with the spring update.  It has been pushed back 1 year so that they can get this in place prior to that, I don't think there is any chance of this being dropped or postponed again.
