GP 2015R2 Web Client - http 503 error "Service is unavailable"

Working on getting the web client installed on a VM with the "Single Machine" install.  Got all the components installed and before rebooting the VM, I was able to connect to the web client.  After a reboot I notices the GP Session Service Central and GP Session Services had an error connecting to SQL so changed them to delayed start.  Rebooted again and now when I try to connect to the web client https://<servername>/GP I get the HTTP 503 error.  I looked at IIS and the application pools are running...so that isn't the issue.  Any ideas on what else could be causing this issue?

Are the GP Session services running?

Yes they are running...restarted them and checked the error logs...no issues there.

I am thinking It has something to do with IIS.  I am thinking I should be able to go to the "GP" site in IIS and right click -> manage application -> browse and the site should come up.  The app pools are started in IIS and I don't see any errors for IIS in the event log.

    1. Does the user assigned to run the service have access to the GP web location folder?

    2. Are you running this on the Default IIS site??

If you're running it on the default IIS site, I would suggest creating a new IIS site and call it something like GP or GPweb, then run through the install, which you could do a repair on and then change the site to the new GPweb IIS site you created. I had an issue with GP2015 R2 in my DEV environment and there was a conflicting application running on my default site. Give it a try, it might fix it.

Hi Tom;  I have not granted the AD user running the service to a specific web location folder.  Do you know which folder it would need access too?  I can try creating another IIS site and see if that works....I am currently using the default web site.

Its worth a shot checking the folder to see if access needs to be granted. I would create a new site because the physical path should be something like  C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP Web Client\GPweb. You can check this by looking at the path under advanced settings in IIS.

Try creating a new site first and go that route, it might be quicker to run through the install then running down the rabbit hole.

Ok...reset my VM back to pre web components install.  Deleted the default web site and created a new one called GPWeb.  Installed a fresh version of the web components into the GPWeb site.  App pool is running and services are running with no errors in event manager...still get the HTTP 503 "Service Unavailable error".  Not sure what I am missing?

hmm.... have you checked the identity of the user running the AppPool? does that user have elevated privileges

I am using an AD user called GPWebServices for all the services and it is also used for the AppPool Identity.  I have not given this user any elevated privileges.  I tried to change the AppPool Identity to "ApplicationPoolIdentity" and was able to get past the "Service Unavailable", but it gave me another error "Unexpected error" with a correlation ID guid.  Do you know if the AppPool AD user needs elevated privileges?

I can't remember off the top of my head, but an easy way to test it to change it to yourself, granted that's as long as you're a local administrator for that server.

I would change the services that are running to you, along with the identity of the App Pool to see if that makes a difference. I would test it out myself but we're actually doing some development this week with a 3rd party vendor so I can't take anything down right now.
