Adding Fields and Choosing Fields within a Configuration Package

Hi:

After having chosen fields within a table in a Configuration Package, you may later realize that you need to choose other fields.

I can't seem to find a way to do so, however, without literally starting over by clicking "Set Included" and choosing the fields you have been using plus the additional fields that you realize that you needed "after the fact".

Is there a simpler way to "add fields" to a Configuration Package?

Also, for a table containing a significant number of fields, it takes a long time to uncheck the fields that you don't need.  So, is there a way of selecting fields all at once that you essentially do not want to "keep"?

Thanks!

John

Hi John, in Config. Packages select the table in the Tables FastTab and from the ribbon choose More Options \ Table \ Fields as shown below. This allows you to choose the desired fields to be included in the Config Package for the specified table.

On the page which is opened with the above selection you can choose Set Included or Clear Included to select or clear all fields barring the primary key on the table i.e. No. field for Items in the example shown below. You can manual tick the boolean field "Include Field" to select specific fields to be included.

    I hope this helps!

and just for clarity, unfortunately it's a clear all fields option or untick each one (one by one), you cannot select multiple fields to remove. It's a limitation unfortunately

Thanks!  But, what if you need to add a field after you have exited the fields window?  The only way that I see is to "start over" in this window.

Hi John. You’re correct. It is mostly down to how the excel file is produced. It has a xml schema. So BC actually uses that on import. Means you have of exported the file with all the fields from BC. Can be painful but once right it’s a nice feature of the system

Hi, Sorry this may not solve your problem.

I think it's a good suggestion, for example, to only provide the required field options in Configuration package.
But BC is not so smart, in most cases, we need to select fields for each table. If it is not enough, we need to re-enter the BC to check and export again.
However I believe most Partners have their own Configuration Package template. It was created with years of experience.

    Hope this will help.

    Thanks.

    Hi John

You don't need to start over to add more fields to the package.

You can reopen the table fields page and use a filter on "Include Field" to No so you can see only fields not currently included.

There, once in Edit mode, you can individually select the fields you need to add without losing the fields already selected.
