Management Reporter 2012 Protection Feature isn't working

Posted on by 750

I am trying to protect all report definitions and building blocks.  I select the lock feature in menu bar and it is appears highlighted after i enter a password. However, when I log back in or any other user logs back in, the report and/or building blocks are not protected even though it looks like it should be. We also do not get the prompt to enter the password or select a read only status.

Is there something that I am missing?

Thank you!  I had our IT setup gpadmin so that I could assign this user as the Administrator. Then changed myself to a designer. Problem solved.  Thanks again!

    Hello again Napolo

Nothing more valuable at all to add up to what's mentioned by Harry, here is what's mentioned in the MR user guide for the lock building blocks feature

"A user who has the role of administrator can always access and change a protected building block"

Please never hesitate to share any further inquiries,

    Napolo,

It is not uncommon for the Domain\Administrator Account to be the Administrator for Management Reporter. This is the solution I had in mind.  Assign the Administrator account the appropriate permissions and downgrade your permissions to be in line with other users. This will mean you will have to go to IT to make administrative changes in Management Reporter.

    HI Harry,

Management Reporter users are linked to our systems Active Directory through our IT Department.  If I try to set myself up as a Designer, it tells me that this user is already setup.  I only have one domain name connected to my terminal server access.  Also, it doesn't let me toggle between assigned roles.

I think the best way to do this would be to remove administrative privileges to your account in Management Reporter, and use a different account to administer Management Reporter.

Correction:  Other Users are able to see the Password Prompt and ability to access via Read-Only.  However, I am able to still manipulate the report and building blocks on my end as the administrator.   Is there a way to protect the reports from myself??  Would like to enter as read only unless I enter a password when changes are required.
