How does DMF entity decide to create a new record or update an existing one?

I am working with a copy of the 'SMAServiceOrderHeaderEntity' to allow the creation / update of records.
I've noticed that my initial attempts to have the system 'Update' records is failing.  The system is trying to 'Create' records.
I am sending it a Service Order Number that exists in the system and that is the 'Entity Key' on the DMF Entity.

    The system joins a staging record with the entity (via the entity key) and checks if it returns something. Then the entity may have code that changes the action (which likely isn't your case).
     
    Here a few ideas:
    • Verify that your new staging table has a (correct) relation to your new entity.
    • Verify that you're importing to the right company.
    • Check that the staging record has the correct value in ServiceOrderNumber. Watch out of special characters too.
    • Make sure that target mapping is correct.
    • You can debug DMF to understand why it thinks that the record doesn't exist.

    Thank you!  The 'correct' relation to the entity was the issue. I copied my entity and staging table from an existing entity and forgot to change that relation on the staging table.
    Once I fixed that, it worked perfectly.
