GP - Views with Multi Companies

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by

Good Afternoon,

We have multiple companies.  We will have GP up and running the second quarter of this year.  I have been trying to learn the reports part.

When creating views, I have put some in SMARTLIST for Fabrikam.  I notice that all the Reports are available for all the companies.

But when creating them a particular database is selected for the view to use.  In this case "TWO" for Frabrikam.  How does SMARTLIST keep the reports separate for each company?

Confused..

Thank you,

Andree7

I am not sure I selected the correct filter for this question.

Smart list, by design, appears in all companies.  If you are hard coding the database in the view, that companies data will be available no matter which company you log into.

If you are creating new Smartlists either using smart list builder or smart list designer, you can use GP Security to make them available in specific companies.  Depending on how many companies you have this can be a little bit of an administrative nightmare.

If you are using smart list builder (eOne) you can also check the Use Company Database check box (this may be available in smart list designer, but I am not sure).  Assuming you do not hard code a database in the view itself, this should pull the data from the company you are logged into.  If you do not create the view in a specific company, the smart list should come back empty.
