Fixing a revalue

Posted on by 50

Hi everyone,

I was doing a month end revaluation of my accounts, but realized that I had one more entry to add to the month before the reval, so I backed it out, but I used the wrong reverse date (it was one day too early) and now everything is a mess because it put the credit in the wrong month, and you can't do a backout of a backout. Can anyone give a solution to my problem? Thanks

    RE: Fixing a revalue

If you backed out a JE with trx date 12/31 and reversing date at 12/31 instead of 1/1, it will create the reverse entry for the original JE in same date 12/31(this will look like a backed out of the backed out JE). So, this won't affect your General Ledger(Debit & Credit will be same).

To resolve this, create a new Journal Entry with the trx date 12/31 and correct reversing date as 1/1.

    Hope this helps!!!

We tried to do that, but then it affects the multicurrency module. Essentiall we did the following:

The original entry we attempted to back out was a multicurrency journal entry:

Dr 10,000 on 12/31 with reversing Cr on 1/1

When we backed it out the trx date was again 12/31, but the reversing date was mistakenly left at 12/31 instead of 1/1.

Now, we don't know how to correct the problem. Any other ideas?

    Thank you very much.

Better manually create a new Journal Entry with correct reversing date and post the same.

    Hope this helps!!!
