Deposits in Transit

Posted on by 60

I have three deposits in transit from 2005.  This is when I first started at the company and must have overlooked something when reconciling the bank account.

All of my accounts in the trial balance are correct, but I need to delete these DIT's from the Bank Recon.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Laurie

I tried in the Test Company.  Pulled up the transfer to void using 9/1/12 as the date.  I ended up with a debit and a credit to the same Bank Account and GL Code.  The "deposit" is still oustanding.

If that's the case Laurie, then go to Bank Transfers and Void the transfers there (select Void as the Option).  This will have an impact on your GL, so you'll likely need to make a JE to reverse the effect of voiding the transfers.  Let us know how it goes.

    Thank you Leslie & Frank:

The deposits were actually a transfer from one bank account to another.  On the Bank Recon it lists them as "DIT"  Does this make a difference?

Frank is right about trying to void them to reduce the balance in the checkbook register. Voiding a deposit will have no impact on the general ledger. Voiding the deposit may create another issue if you made the deposit using Deposits with Receipts. The receipts you deposited will be 'freed up' and they will be back in the scrolling window of deposit entry.

You can easily clear them out of there by using a Deposit to Clear Receipts or Clear Unused Receipts. Something like that. It's a tyoe of Deposit. This action will clear the receipts from the scrolling window. It will not affect general ledger, nor will it change your checkbook register balance.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

Try going into Bank Deposits, select Void as the Option and see if you can void them.
