Minimum Number of Licences to Implement D365 Sales with CSS Portal

Hello,

I am working with a  client who is interested to implement D365 Sales and Customer Service. I would like to know the minimum number of D365 licences are required.

A client would like to use Customer Self-service portal for its Contacts to submit cases and view and accept quotations so unlimited sign-ins would be required to the portal.

I have tried to contact MS and CSPs but couldn't find an exact answer. Someone said there is no minimum Licence requirements to provision D365 sales with portal functionality, the second company said min 5 Full licences and the third company said minimum 20 Licences.

I am reading through 2020 Licence guide and unfortunately, it doesn't provide the required information.

Regards,

I have the same question (0)

RE: Minimum Number of Licences to Implement D365 Sales with CSS Portal

    Hi Jahan,

There is no requirement of minimum number of licenses required to purchase and implement Dynamics 365 Sales and Customer Service. Based on your user requirements you can purchase the required number and type of licenses. You can refer the licensing guide and the pricing website for types of Dynamics 365 Sales and Customer service licenses and the pricing : https://dynamics.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/

Regarding the creation of PowerApps Portals of the type Customer Self Service Portal etc., it can be created without any specific licensing requirements. User access licensing is based on the type of users accessing the portal. The portals are now based on Capacity based licensing. The customers can purchase portal capacity add on like page views, logins based on their requirements. Refer this article for all details regarding the new PowerApps portals licensing: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/powerapps-flow-licensing-faq#general-licensing-questions

Also, for creating a PowerApps portal on a Dynamics 365 environment (like a Customer Self Service portal) please refer to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/portals/create-dynamics-portal for guidelines.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Shaina

RE: Minimum Number of Licences to Implement D365 Sales with CSS Portal

    Hi Shaina,

Many thanks for answering my question in detail.  Just to enure that that Portal my client would like to use is the one which comes with D365 Sales and my client is not looking for a stand alone powerapps portal.

After reading the information above can you please confirm if my assumption is correct.

My client can Provision D365 sales by buying only a single D365 sales Enterprise Licence?

As a part of subscription (With one licence) he can provision D365 portal for its customers to view Knowledge base articles and submit cases etc? He is not bound to buy a certian number of licences to use the portal?

External users like my client contacts can register on D365 portals at no extra cost to my client?

RE: Minimum Number of Licences to Implement D365 Sales with CSS Portal

    Hi Jahan,

Firstly, regarding implementation of Dynamics 365 Sales or Customer Service, you can purchase the required number of licenses based on the number of users in the Dynamics 365 environment. For example: If you purchase just one user license of Dynamics 365 Sales or Customer Service, then only one user can be licensed and will be able to access the Dynamics 365 environments.

After you have purchased the Dynamics 365 Sales or Customer Service user licenses, you can create environments and use its functionalities. Now, if you want to create a portal for example a Customer Self Service Portal associated to a Dynamics Customer Service environment, you will need to create a PowerApps portal using any of the templates that best suits your needs. Guidelines to create a Portal on an environment with Dynamics 365 Apps: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/portals/create-dynamics-portal

    Templates available: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/portals/portal-templates#environment-with-model-driven-apps-in-dynamics-365

The PowerApps portals are the new portals that have the full capabilities of the Dynamics 365 portals. Please refer: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/portals/overview

These PowerApps portals can be provisioned without requiring a specific license, however for users to be able to use/access the portal, you will need to buy licenses/portal capacity add ons based on the type of users that need to access your portal (Internal users, External authenticated users, external anonymous users). For external authenticated users you will need to purchase Power Apps portals login capacity add-on, for external anonymous users you will need to purchase Power Apps portals page view capacity add-on and for internal users that need to access the portal they will need Dynamics 365, PowerApps per app plan or PowerApps per user plan. These details are mentioned in here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/powerapps-flow-licensing-faq#portals

Also, you can refer to the PowerApps licensing guide (page 7 onwards) for more details on Portals licensing: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/pricing-billing-skus (you can find the link to download the licensing guide here)

Providing a snapshot from the licensing guide:

    Hope this helps.
