Next to the documentation, there are many blog posts related to this topic. Use the next link to see e.g. what I have written in the past: kaya-consulting.com/.../data-importexport-framework
And of course there is an e-learning module on this.

I don't know what release/CU you are on, but there was a big update in this area from R2 to R3. (and of course further changes for DFO365)

The best advice you could get is to read the documentation, then by using a search engine you could find examples on how to set up a new custom DIXF entity that you could follow from a blog or partner website. You may try either the wizard - or to understand better how it works follow the manual entity creation steps on MSDN.
