We are using Dynamics portals to support many accounts, and we have a requirement to alter the theming to match the accounts brand, so when a user logs in from account x, the theme for Account x is used.
The same portal may have a default style or styles for other customers
Is this possible without buying a new dynamics portal for a different cname?

I don't think it is possible to change the colors/ layout dynamically. Even if it can be changed dynamically based on the certain conitions [in your case based on account], browser may cache the previous version.
The only think I can think of on top my head is to make multiple copies of the web pages and show/hide based on the users. I know this doesn't sound quite right but if you have few pages and few account then worth a try.
