Format How Dynamic Date/Time Fields are Rendered in Case Titles

We are using a workflow to automate case creation. Our business objective is to include the date within the Case title. As an example, a Case entitled "Troubleshoot Client Technical Problem," which was created on February 1, 2015 would actually read, "Troubleshoot Client Technical Problem 02/01/2015." I know we can use the Execution Time(Process) to return the case creation date, but it also includes the time. Is there a way to render the output format of Execution Time(Process) so the date is returned, without the time?

    Hi,

You need to use custom workflow activity in this case..

Here are some examples, these are for CRM 4.0 but you can create same way

    a33ik.blogspot.com/.../formatting-datetime-in-workflows-with.html

    community.dynamics.com/.../formatting-datetime-in-workflows-with-custom-workflow-activity-in-microsoft-dynamics-crm-4-0.aspx

another option would be, create case as it is with time  included, and when case form opened at that time you can change date format and remove time using onload JavaScript..

but when using javascript, date is formatted only when record is opened.

    Hope this will help.

You can do it easily via workflows:

    1. if you are creating a case automatically by workflow1; in the same workflow add step

    Update case>>Properties>>Update title= Case title+Case Created on

    2. If case is automatically getting created via some websites

Create a new workflow with same steps stated above-Update case>>Properties>>Update title= Case title+Case Created on

Did you check this utility wfdatetimeutilities.codeplex.com , you can simply install and use it to manipulate date time to get just date part.

Prashant, Thank you for your suggestion. The problem with this approach is how the Case Created On element is rendered -- the element natively displays both the date and time. We would prefer to display only the date in the Case Title. Based on the feedback from the other collaborators, it seems the only way to accomplish our objective is with JavaScript or by adding a custom solution. Are you aware of any alternatives that are native to Dynamics CRM Online? Many thanks again for all your assistance.

    Yes, Petros

I would tell you an alternative:

Create a new field of date type (created on 2) and copy the value of 'created on' into this new field

Then follow the same steps as told above:

You can do it easily via workflows:

    1. if you are creating a case automatically by workflow1; in the same workflow add step

    Update case>>Properties>>Update title= Case title+Case Created on

    2. If case is automatically getting created via some websites

Create a new workflow with same steps stated above-Update case>>Properties>>Update title= Case title+Case Created on
