Dynamics 365 Installations - Cloud and On-Premise

Hi,

Some layman questions related to Dynamics 365 Installation/Deployment,

1 - Is there any document available that differentiates installation of cloud vs on-premise Dynamics 365.

2 - Is Azure still required if we go for on-premise version.

3 - For cloud deployments, we get an all-set VM which has everything available, is there some installation media provided like in AX 2012  if we go for on-premise.

Thanks,

Please find below answers to your questions

    1) nothing like a single PDF file. Most of content is available at docs site.

    2) yes, to connect local agent with LCS project. Please note that I am not sure about cost of such azure subscription in case of on-prem.

    3) No installation media, azure deployment is doing all magic itself.

You may want to look at On-premises deployment landing page first; it should answer at least some of your questions.

Thanks Sohaib for the answers, about point 3, just to confirm, is it the same for on-premise deployment as well ? and if it is, how do we make the system design for the customer like we did for the 2012 version i.e. how many AOSs, SQL servers etc. needed as I guess there are some additional servers required here for Orchestrator etc. I am not able to understand what to include in the Hardware Requirements proposal as a sure person.

    Thanks,

    Hi Abdul,

    For 2:

Azure is not needed for compute resources. You will need Azure AD to set up user accounts for LCS and VSTS access.

For the D365FO environment itself, you'll need AD DS and ADFS for user and service account authentication.

    For 3:

See the hardware sizing document link:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/unified-operations/fin-and-ops/get-started/hardware-sizing-on-premises-environments

I am working through the same process at the moment and with limited information from the client, it is tricky to get an accurate picture. However I would always recommend scaling higher than you need to compensate for future growth.

    HTH.

    Jelle
