Update values on Child record when change occurs on Parent

Dear All,

Is it possible to update a value on all child records should a value change on the parent record?

I guess the most basic example would be if the address on an Account changed and I wanted to update all child Contact records to reflect this change.

Can this be performed via workflow?

Many Thanks,

Alex

As far as I know, you can only update the Primary Contact with a workflow, not all contacts with the parentaccountid of the account. To update the single contact you include the "related entity" within the workflow and set each field to the accounts corresponding field. To update multiple records, I think you are going to need a plugin. Someone else may know of a way to do this with a WF but I think it is only possible on the primary contact.

I would prefer to go for a plugin in this case. But if you want to include such logic in a workflow, you have to write a custom workflow-assembly which you can use within the workflow after you have registered it.

    Hi

I have been using this solution with great success, but now with CRM 2015, it does not work.

Does anyone know if there is a fix to update child records from a parent record in CRM 2015?

    Best,

    Mads

    Hi,

I have also used the same Codeplex solution and successfully registered the plugin. And also configured Update Workflow. It did not update records on child entity. My scenario is: On update of Account Primary address should update Custom entity (multiple addresses). The parent WF is triggered the child process did not called. I am not sure what is wrong. Can anyone help me?

    Thanks

    Vijay
