Not sure if this could be our issue but found bug 25504 which says:
System Message 56: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Function sequence error
When correcting any timecard. when pjlabdis has a docnbr with an alpha character.
The workaround is to : Remove the alpha character from any docnbr in pjlabdis or delete detail from the Time/expense module with the Delete Project Detail screen if they are old.
This worked fine through several versions until version 8.10 (FP1).
Might this be your issue?
