Direct Delivery with Special Items

Hi,

We use MS Dynamics AX 2012 R3

Have some Items (e.g. A0001)with a storage dimension that use warehouse management with warehouse, location, Inventory status and LP.

I created sales order for A0001 using a Direct Delivery warehouse which is not enable the Warehouse management parameter. Once I clicked Direct Delivery button, system created PO automatically.

Then I confirmed related PO and wanted to create product receipt, error message as follow:

'Inventory dimension Location must be specified'

Here are my questions:

Do I still need to create some 'dummy' locations and LP in this direct delivery warehouse?

Any suggestions  would be appreciated. Thanks!

It's not strictly the warehouse that needs the dummy locations, because you specify whether an item is using locations on its Storage dimension group - but you don't get the choice of using locations in one warehouse but not another unless you have 'Allow blank receipt' and 'Allow blank issue' ticked. Personally I always like to see locations active and being used. It's very little effort to set a dummy location in a warehouse and set that as the Default receipt and Default issue location on the warehouse (then later, if you want to, you can add more locations to the warehouse). You should find that the Storage dimension group does allow blank LP's though - so you won't need them in your direct delivery PO warehouse.

    Hi Tim,

Thanks so much for your answer.

This item (e.g. A0001) must be with a storage dimension that use warehouse management, and, A0001 sometimes need to be involved direct delivery purchase process. Therefore, as your suggestion, I think I still need to create location (whatever dummy or meaningful) in direct delivery warehouse, am I right? Thanks

    Hi Ding,

I did a quick test. I had to create a location in my Direct delivery warehouse, and set the Default Receipt and Default Issue location on that warehouse.

    Hi Guy,

Thanks so much for your help. So I think I need to setup a location in direct delivery warehouse.  Have a nice weekend!
