export contacts to excel

Hi, hope someone can help with this

I have exported contacts to an excel spreadsheet for use in a third party mailing program. I have used the 'Dynamic Worksheet' option - chose the columns including those that have opted out of email and opend it up for editing. I get a message to 'enable content'.

No matter what I do to this spreadsheet, it will not save my alterations. I have tried copying to another sheet, used 'save as'. Disconnecting from the data source just removes all data when I next open my saved spreadsheet. It is not showing as locked.

How can I make use of this exported data ?

Many thanks

Jim

    RE: export contacts to excel

    Hi,

I'm sorry for the late answer, but I hope my suggestion can help other users who struggle with the same issue.

If you tried to export the needed data to Excel yet it doesn't work for you, give 3rd party services a chance to do that task for you.

You may migrate any modules you wish to Excel automatically, Privacy and safety guaranteed.

So, transfer a bit of your data using Free Demo Migration and see how it works.

    Hope, it helps

OK -  I seem to have resolved this now.

There are two areas that needed attention - the most important part is in the connection properties, as here there are various settings for preserving and refershing the data. I just cleared the 'Save query definition' which stripped all the settings here and then removed the data connection - et voila ! I can now edit and save all cells that have been altered.

Thanks for the postings guys - Mark pushed me the right direction.

    Cheers !

    Hi Mark,

Yes, I've tried that - I'm beginning to wonder why there is a feature to export to excel if it's not possible to do anything with it.

I'll investigate permissions on the file next - any other suggestions?

In the meantime - thanks for your repsonse

    Cheers

    Jim

can you try saving it as a different format? i believe by default the format is excel XML document.

the document itself doesnt store any data, i believe it fetches it on every open (which is why your data is being 'replaced' each time you open the doc).

    Re: export contacts to excel

Hi Jerry, thanks for your posting - yes I managed to enable content ok. This is not for reimport to CRM but I need to clean up the data in the spreadsheet before using in an online bulk mailing service. As I say, it seems to be locked in some way.

I have done a lot of work in extracting those that have opted out from email etc., saved and closed but as soon as I open the spreadsheet - there they are again. If I disconnect from the data source then all data disappears.

I have even selected the data in the spreadhseet after editing, copied to the clipboard and created a new workbook and pasted it in and saved as a new file - problem remains

    Any other suggestions ?

    Cheers

    Jim

    Re: export contacts to excel

Are you able to enable content? If not it is stuck in a read only state.

When exporting to Excel for re-import you must save the file first and then open it.

Or lastly check out this blog posting.
