Can I display a different form if I have different case types?

I would like to add a new field to the standard CASE that allows me to select a case type when I create a new case.  Based on the case type, a different form is then displayed.  Can this be done?

thanks.

    Hello,

This is possible but it would require development of JavaScript - community.dynamics.com/.../157879

I have to say that I don't like that functionality too much because what will happen, then, is that CRM will be opening one form, and, once the form has been loaded, it will be switching to the correct form.. so, essentially, the same record will be loaded twice(unless you are lucky to open correct form right away so it does not need to be switched)

An alternative would be to hide and show various sections/tabs/controls on the form using javascript, too:

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../gg334266.aspx

This can turn into a messy script, though, if there are lots of differences between different case types

And another alternative would be to create "subtypes" for your cases (different "case details" entity for different case types) - then you might have lookups from the main case form to the "sub types" entities.. which you might hide and show using a business rule. But that creates another problem, of course, since you will be splitting data between different entities (that will affect reporting, views, dashboards..)

yes you can - using jscript

Should you? That depends on how much difference there is between the UIs for the case types

Normally we don't switch the form depends on the record field's value, it is very ugly and create you the problem to maintain more forms.

What we tend to do is to group specific fields into a tab and show/hide the tab based on the field's value. It tends to be more easier to maintain as well.

As I said above that depends on how many fields are different, business rules etc. We use both at once in a current development i.e. different forms and hide/show tabs. It also depends on whether different teams are working on the different forms.
