    Hi Maria,

Demand forecasting gets factored into master planning. Capacity planning is done on the basis of orders suggested by Master Planning.

Here is a scenario that will help you understand this little better:

    1. Say you have capacity to assemble 100 pcs / day at a resource/group level.

    2. Forecast demand is 1000 pcs.

    3. Total open demand is 50 pcs.

    4. If you run master planning the system is going to create planned Production order for 1050 pcs and then schedule them on the basis of 100 pcs / day depending upon what kind of scheduling you are using.

For this to work, suggest that you first focus on including the Demand Forecasting order to be included in planned orders. Once you have that working, then focus on setting up forecasting.

    Thanks,

    Satish Panwar

    Hi Maria,

When we run MRP, system will calculate the related requirement and generate planned orders that includes related resource and route.

Here are two basic parameters in master planning about capacity planning.

In discrete production environments, the route defines the sequence of operations required for production. Production scheduling considers the capacity and any other restrictions including current load to determine production times. Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 provides the ability to include specific resource requirements such as skill level which is linked back to the employee setup in the HR module.

It might help you to read about routes and scheduling:

There are many related blog posts and videos.
