CRM Outlook client causing Outlook to Freeze

Hi,

We are using Dynamics CRM 2015 in Office 365 and Outlook 2013 x32 with the CRM 2013 plug in and getting lots of feedback from staff that Outlook is freezing.  All of our machines are Win7 with Office 2013 and fully patched.  We narrowed it down to the Outlook/CRM client as once you remove the client, Outlook doesn't freeze.  We have tried the new 2015 CRM client for Outlook and no difference.  I don't want to release a new version of the tool to my user base until we've worked thru this issue.

We see Outlook freezing when you first start the computer up and it does it's first sync to Office365 and randomly thru the day.

Has anyone else experienced this?  I've not had much luck at finding any current information on the net re this.

thanks for your help

Simon

There is a really great outlook troubleshooter that can be found here-http://bit.ly/IaLQo6

The things that I've seen cause freezes are:

    1. Sync settings - check that the users are not syncing 100's of contacts/activities by looking at their outlook sync filters.

    2. Mailbox size - Check that they don't have huge mail boxes.

    3. Cached Exchange Mailbox - Check that the users have cached exchange mode enabled.

    4. Outlook Profile corrupt - try rebuilding/repairing the user outlook profile.

    See technet.microsoft.com/.../hh699813.aspx

    Hope this helps

    Hi Scott,

thanks for the suggestion, I'll have a look.

I know that some of the affected staff do have huge mailboxes, one has a 30GB and is syncing 100's of activities/contacts/emails.

I'll try a few of these things in the lab and post back.

    regards

    Simon

    Hi Scott,

I've had a good play with these options and we still get the freeze.  Took a while due to the holidays.

The affected users do have 30GB plus mailboxes and are syncing 100's of contacts.

We've rebuilt the mail profile and done the testing on a fresh non domain install of Win7 and Office 2013.

I'm guessing this is the behaviour of the CRM client?  Would you know if there are alternatives to the client as having these limitations are proving to be a big issue with my CRM users.

    regards

    Simon

I realize that I'm responding to an old post but I just came across this while doing some research.  One option would be for you to turn off synchronization of Contacts.  I recently did to address this issue.

    Hi Dan,

Thanks for the tip on not syncing the contacts.  We are discovering that the Outlook client is at best "flaky".

It's a real shame that M$ can't get the Outlook client to be stable.

We are doing the CRM 2016 upgrade soon and hope that will increase the stability, if not, will have to rethink the use of the CRM client for Outlook.

    Regards

    Simon

Couple of things to try, if you haven't already.

    1. Ensure Internet Explorer is upgraded to the latest version on all PCs.

    2. Run the Diagnostics app (3 sails emblem). Windows Start Menu > Diagnostics.

-Navigate to the second tab “Advanced Troubleshooting”

-Select “Delete Temporary Microsoft Dynamics CRM Client Files”

    3. Lengthen the Synchronization timer in System Settings > Outlook
